IF YOU WILL BE DRIVING:

Traveling North from Anchorage or Talkeetna:

First, after leaving Anchorage, don't forget to turn off that highway onto Highway 3 toward Wasilla, Denali and Fairbanks. This turn is about 30 minutes out of Anchorage and there are a lot of signs- it's hard to miss.

Anchorage is located at Mile 0. We are located at Mile 224.1 of the Parks Highway. You will find us 14 miles north of the small town of Cantwell.

As you approach Milepost 224, be sure to slow down.

Immediately ahead you will see the Carlo Creek Bridge (there's a sign). We are located just beyond that bridge on your left.

Take your first left after the bridge. To find our driveway, look for orange traffic cones and a TALL black mailbox with HOSTEL painted on it in white letters. It is about 100 yards beyond the bridge.

Please don't try to come down the pedestrian trail, which is immediately past the bridge.

Be careful of traffic, especially behind you. Remember, you are still in a 65 MPH speed zone where passing is allowed!

Our office is the first cabin you will come to.

The trip from Anchorage can take anywhere from 4 to 5 hours, depending on RV traffic and road construction. Don't forget - check-in is not until 4:00 PM and the office may be temporarily closed during shuttle runs.

If you arrive too early you could continue on to the park and pick up your bus tickets or check it out. If you are just a little early, there is coffee, food, and beer or wine available across the highway.

Traveling South from Fairbanks:

Fairbanks is located approximately at Mile 355. You will find the mile markers on the left side of the road and going down in number. We are located at Mile 224.1 of the Parks Highway.

You will go through what is known as 'the Canyon', a mile or so of many shops and big hotels. Next, you will drive past the entrance to the National Park at about Mile 237. We are another 13 miles down the highway.

When you come to Milepost 225 start to slow down- you are just under a mile from our driveway which is coming up on your right.

You will see a gravel pit on your right and up ahead some businesses on your left. Watch for our TALL black mail box with HOSTEL painted on it in white letters, and two orange traffic cones marking our driveway.

We are located just before the Carlo Creek Bridge.

Be careful of traffic, especially behind you. Remember, you are still in a 65 MPH speed zone where passing is allowed!

After turning off the highway, our office is the first cabin you will come to.

We are about a two-and-a-half-hour drive (130 miles) south of Fairbanks on Alaska Highway 3. Traffic is usually much less of a problem coming from Fairbanks but you may still find road construction on the way. Please remember, check-in is not until 4 PM and the office may be temporarily closed during shuttle runs.

If you arrive too early you could plan to stop at the park and pick up your bus tickets or check out the park entrance area. If you are just a little early, there is coffee, food, and beer or wine available across the highway.

RENTAL CARS:

Most people who want to have a car here (although it is not really necessary) rent one in Anchorage or Fairbanks. But if you find yourself in Denali and wishing you had a car you are NOT out of luck. Click Here for more information. For another option, Click Here.
