Yes, you could live near Denali all summer, and get paid to do it!
We normally begin accepting applications in late January for the following summer. Our work season begins in early May and ends in late September. For the 2018 season, work begins on May 11 and ends on September 22.
We strive to create a tight-knit vibe among our staff and to provide a fun, clean, and affordable environment for travelers visiting the Denali area. Our goal is to create community among people from all over the world and to provide a relaxed, knowledgeable, and friendly experience for all of our guests. You don't have to work for the corporate giants to be able to work in Denali! If you support local, independent business and want to help promote traveler and adventure culture, this may be the job for you! Please read on for a detailed explanation of who we are and what we do.
We are a team-oriented organization, and each of our employees is responsible for helping each other out as needed every day, but for the most part, there are two main positions: Front Desk and Housekeeping. Both of these positions share Shuttle Driving duties as well, and will be responsible for going to and from the park entrance area 1 or 2 times per shift to pick up and drop off our guests at the park.
Respond to all guest inquiries via phone and email, process guest reservations, answer questions about the Denali National Park area and assist guests in reserving transportation and tour reservations, and aid all guests with check-in and check-out procedures.
Clean all cabins and bunks that have been checked out of and get them ready for incoming guests. Launder and fold all linens. Clean kitchen, common area, and other shared facilities on the property, as well as any other periodic cleaning/tidying tasks as needed.
Account for all guests who are utilizing our courtesy shuttle service and transport them between our location and the Denali National Park entrance area in a safe and timely manner.
Because of the dynamic responsibilities that working with us entails, all applicants must possess strong multi-tasking skills and excellent focus. It is important to have outstanding and professional interpersonal skills and to be able to remain calm and courteous in what can be a busy and demanding day-to-day operation. Must have a solid attention to detail and thorough cleaning and organizational skills.
Front Desk staff should be familiar with the Apple/Macintosh iOS and the Microsoft Office Suite. Cash handling skills are also a must.
Housekeeping staff should be well-organized with excellent time management skills, an independent work ethic and a strong attention to detail. Please be comfortable working on your feet for 8 hours per day at a fast pace.
In order to drive our shuttle van, our insurance company requires that you be at least 21 years old and that you have a clean driving record (we will need a copy if you are selected for the interview process). You will also need to be able to attach our trailer to the van and help people load and unload their luggage, which means you must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
All employees must be able to be legally employed in the United States for our entire work season (May 11, 2018 through September 22, 2018).
May 11, 2018 through September 22, 2018
We offer low-cost, individually private employee housing units that are a short walk away from work. Rent includes all utilities, including wireless internet access.
Season end bonuses are available to all employees at the discretion of the employer. Besides getting to live and play in the Denali National Park area, we are a vendor for MANY local tours including rafting, flight-seeing, zip-lining, ATV tours, and many more! In exchange for helping to market these tours to our guests, you will be able to try out all of the tours for a low cost or compliments of the tour provider (opportunities vary based on tour provider policies). You will also experience the unique adventure of getting to be part of a seasonal community full of other fun and exciting people from around the world!
You will be responsible for your own transportation to Alaska. We can give you information on the best ways to get here. We are located about 4 hours north of Anchorage (and about 2.5 hours south of Fairbanks). Please be sure to stock up on and groceries, toiletries, and other supplies before arriving. There are some small markets with limited offerings about 15 miles north of us, and one grocery store in the town of Healy, about 25 miles north of us. For most other services, you will need to go to Fairbanks or Anchorage.
We are located about 15 minutes south of the entrance to Denali National Park- tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist hub, located on a creek and in a mountain valley with amazing access to the wilderness right at your doorstep! If you are craving a bit more of a busy scene, the park entrance area is just a short trip away- it really is the best of both worlds! If you will not have your own vehicle, you can catch a lift on our shuttle to the park entrance area, as long as there is still room for all guests. Once you are in the park entrance area, there are tons of outdoor adventures, gift shops, and restaurants all within walking distance. In addition, we are located across the road from two restaurants and a fun pub where lots of other seasonal employees socialize and hang out.
If you are ready for the summer of a lifetime, please contact us next January to request an application. We look forward to hearing from you!
