Don't just look at Alaska through a window, but come out, stretch your legs and walk through it. The Guided Walking Tour is more relaxed and mellow, while the longer Guided Hike will be for the more adventurous hiker. Read on for a full description of both! Guides on these tours are among the most experienced in Alaska. Each guide has a minimum of four years experience. Combined they have guided throughout Alaska and spent decades hiking and climbing in the Alaska Range. They have climbed Denali and traversed the entire Alaska Range on foot.
Walking with an experienced local naturalist is really a great way to see the complicated connections of plants, animals, and people within the splendor of true wilderness in Alaska. The boreal forest in the lower elevations gives way to specialized sub arctic ecosystems like taiga and tundra. The permafrost areas and fantastic mountains are home to plants and animals highly adapted to the harsh elements. Your guide will stop frequently to explain this in depth.
Trails are best described as moderate, with tree roots, hills, and mud in places. This is Alaska so bring your outdoor gear; sturdy walking shoes, water, jacket and rain gear, along with your camera and curiosity of this great land. This tour is not meant to be a workout, but it is three consecutive hours of walking on sometimes unimproved trails. Average pace is about one mile per hour with frequent stops. There is time for resting, drinking, conversing and even picking berries in season.
Guides utilize trails both inside and outside Denali Park, depending on where the best walking can be found. Small groups, experienced guides and the beauty of the north side of the Alaska range make this tour a great way to immerse yourself in the place you have traveled so far to see.

Tours may be operated inside or just outside of Denali National Park. Minimum age is 8. Wear hiking attire and comfortable walking shoes. Bring water, rain gear, a hat, a camera, and insect repellant. Don't forget your binoculars! Some trails used on this tour are unimproved , and may have tree roots, mud, rock and other natural obstacles to avoid. Walking portion of tour is approximately 3 hours. Distances vary by group and trail. This tour cannot accommodate any person over 300 lbs.

This tour is for the more fit travelers. While still a narrated tour, the interpretive hike covers more ground, and explores the glacier topology in depth. The extra time on the ground gives the group a chance to see the forested area near the Nenana river, the brushy but wildlife rich sub-alpine tundra, and the gorgeous views and highly adapted vegetation of the taiga.

Must be in good physical condition. Trails may be unimproved, and have natural obstacles such as brush, mud, rock and tree roots to avoid. Off trail walking in the tundra is spongy and sometimes wet. Tour operates rain or shine, but may be cancelled by the operator in the event of extremely bad weather or unsuitable conditions. Changes in weather during this tour may expose travelers to periods of cold and wet conditions. Wear layers, sunscreen, hats and sunglasses. You may bring a backpack with water and snacks. Don't forget your camera, and bring binoculars if you have them! Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. Distances vary by group and trail. This tour cannot accommodate any person over 300 lbs.

Full refunds are issued up to three days in advance of a booked trip. No refunds will be given if guest cancels within 3 days of a trip. Refunds are subject to a 3.5% processing fee. In the event that a trip is cancelled due to passenger minimums or weather, a full refund will be issued. Tours operate rain or shine and we seldom cancel for rainy weather.
