Don't just look at Alaska through a window, but come out, stretch your legs and walk through it. The Guided Walking Tour is more relaxed and mellow, while the longer Guided Hike will be for the more adventurous hiker. Read on for a full description of both! Guides on these tours are among the most experienced in Alaska. Each guide has a minimum of four years experience. Combined they have guided throughout Alaska and spent decades hiking and climbing in the Alaska Range. They have climbed Denali and traversed the entire Alaska Range on foot.

Denali Walking Tour

Walking with an experienced local naturalist is really a great way to see the complicated connections of plants, animals, and people within the splendor of true wilderness in Alaska.  The boreal forest in the lower elevations gives way to specialized sub arctic ecosystems like taiga and tundra. The permafrost areas and fantastic mountains are home to plants and animals highly adapted to the harsh elements. Your guide will stop frequently to explain this in depth.

Trails are best described as moderate, with tree roots, hills, and mud in places.  This is Alaska so bring your outdoor gear; sturdy walking shoes, water, jacket and rain gear, along with your camera and curiosity of this great land.  This tour is not meant to be a workout, but it is three consecutive hours of walking on sometimes unimproved trails.  Average pace is about one mile per hour with frequent stops.  There is time for resting, drinking, conversing and even picking berries in season.

Guides utilize trails both inside and outside Denali Park, depending on where the best walking can be found. Small groups, experienced guides and the beauty of the north side of the Alaska range make this tour a great way to immerse yourself in the place you have traveled so far to see.
